Step-by-step

Heat the front glass edges
3 minApply a heat gun around the perimeter of the front panel for two minutes to soften the adhesive beneath the glass.

Attach a suction cup to the screen
2 minPlace a suction cup on the top edge of the front glass and pull upward gently to create a thin gap.

Insert opening picks under the glass
2 minSlide a plastic opening pick into the gap between the glass and the aluminum frame.

Slice through the screen adhesive
5 minGuide the opening picks around all four edges of the screen to cut through the remaining adhesive tape.

Open the digitizer panel
1 minCarefully swing the digitizer glass open like a book toward the left side of the casing.

Unscrew the LCD panel
3 minUse a Phillips #00 screwdriver to remove the four corner screws holding the LCD screen to the frame.

Lift and fold the LCD panel
2 minPry up the top edge of the LCD screen with a spudger and flip it downward over the home button area.

Remove the display shield screws
4 minRemove the seven Phillips screws securing the large metal shield plate over the logic board.

Disconnect the LCD panel connector
1 minUse the flat end of a plastic spudger to pry the LCD connector straight up from its socket.

Disconnect the digitizer cable
2 minPry up the digitizer connectors from the logic board and safely remove the front display assembly.

Disconnect the battery contact
2 minRemove the single screw securing the battery connector and slide a plastic guitar pick under the contact to break power.

Unscrew the Lightning port bracket
3 minRemove the four Phillips screws anchoring the Lightning charging port assembly to the bottom enclosure.

Apply flux to the solder joints
2 minSpread a generous layer of liquid or paste flux across the micro-soldered pads connecting the port flex to the logic board.

Desolder the original charging port
8 minUse a heated soldering iron and desoldering braid to absorb solder from all connection pads, then lift the old port out.

Clean the logic board solder pads
2 minWipe the exposed copper pads with a lint-free swab dipped in 99% isopropyl alcohol to remove excess flux.

Solder the new Lightning port flex
10 minAlign the replacement charging port flex cable pins precisely over the board pads and solder each connection down cleanly.
