Heat the front perimeter
3 minUse a heat gun or hair dryer on low setting to warm the outer edges of the glass digitizer for 2-3 minutes. This softens the strong adhesive beneath the glass.

Attach the suction cup
1 minPlace a suction cup onto the upper-left corner of the display glass. Press down firmly to create a tight seal against the surface.

Insert an opening pick
2 minPull up gently on the suction cup to create a thin gap between the glass and the aluminum frame. Slide a plastic opening pick straight into the seam.

Slice the perimeter adhesive
5 minSlide the pick around the edges of the iPad to cut through the adhesive. Avoid deep insertion near the bottom corners to prevent damaging flex cables.

Open the digitizer
2 minGently swing the digitizer glass open from the right side like a book cover. Lay it flat beside the aluminum frame.

Unscrew the LCD panel
3 minUse a Phillips #00 screwdriver to remove the four corner screws securing the LCD display panel.

Lift the LCD panel

Remove the EMI shield
2 minLift the metal shield plate straight out of the iPad body and set it aside.

2 minRemove the three Phillips #00 screws securing the display connector bracket to the logic board.

Remove the connector bracket
1 minUse tweezers to lift the small metal bracket off the logic board.

Disconnect the LCD flex
2 minPry the LCD flex cable connector straight up from its board socket using the flat end of a spudger.

Disconnect the digitizer flex
2 minUnsnap the digitizer cable connector from the logic board with a plastic prying tool.

Disconnect the battery connection
2 minDisconnect the battery flex connector from the logic board socket to eliminate power.

Unscrew the logic board
4 minRemove the seven Phillips #00 screws securing the logic board assembly and Lightning connector port.

Unseat the Lightning port
3 minPry up the integrated Lightning connector assembly from the bottom housing adhesive using a plastic pick.

Remove the logic board
3 minCarefully pry the logic board up from the housing and slide the Lightning dock out of its port opening.
