   Power off the iPad

   Press and hold the top button and either volume button until the slider appears. Slide to completely turn off the iPad Air 5.

   Heat the bottom edge

   Apply a heat gun set to low or an iOpener along the bottom edge of the display for two minutes to soften the adhesive.

   Attach suction cup

   Place a suction cup near the middle of the bottom edge of the screen and press down firmly to secure it.

   Insert opening pick

   Pull up gently on the suction cup to create a slight gap between the glass and frame, then slide a plastic opening pick into the seam.

   Slice the right edge adhesive

   Apply heat to the right edge and slide the opening pick along the side toward the top corner to separate the adhesive.

   Slice the top edge adhesive

   Heat the top edge of the iPad and carefully move the pick across, keeping it shallow to avoid damaging the camera assembly.

   Slice the left edge adhesive

   Heat the left side and slide a pick shallowly along the edge, being careful not to insert it more than 4 mm near the display cables.

   Open the display

   Gently lift the right edge of the display and fold it open to the left like the cover of a book.

   Unscrew the connector shield

   Use a precision screwdriver to remove the retaining screws securing the metal shield over the logic board connectors.

    Remove the shield

    Use tweezers to carefully lift the metal connector shield off the logic board and place it aside.

    Disconnect the battery cable

    Use the flat end of a spudger to pry the battery flex connector straight up off the logic board.

    Disconnect display flex cables

    Pry up the display data cable and touch digitizer cable connectors straight up from their sockets on the board.

    Remove old display

    Lift the original display assembly off the aluminum frame and set it down on a flat surface.

    Unscrew light sensor bracket

    Remove the small screws holding the ambient light sensor bracket to the top back section of the old display panel.

    Transfer ambient light sensor

    Apply light heat to the sensor flex cable, peel it up carefully, and install it into the matching location on the new screen assembly.

    Clean frame adhesive

    Dampen a microfiber cloth with isopropyl alcohol and scrape off all residual adhesive tape from the inner edges of the iPad body.

    Apply new display adhesive

    Lay down fresh pre-cut adhesive strips around all four edges of the aluminum frame, pressing firmly to bond.

    Connect new display cables

    Align and press the display and digitizer flex cables onto their respective logic board connectors until they snap into place.

    Reconnect battery cable

    Press the battery flex connector down into its socket on the logic board to restore power connectivity.

    Reinstall connector shield

    Position the metal shield back over the board connectors and tighten the original retaining screws.

    Seal display to frame

    Peel the protective backing off the adhesive strips, line up the screen precisely with the chassis, and press down evenly around all edges.
