Power Down iPad
1 minTurn off the iPad Air 4 completely before beginning any disassembly.

Heat the Display Edges
3 minApply heat along the edges of the display with a heat gun for 2 to 3 minutes to soften the screen adhesive.

Attach Suction Cup
2 minPlace a suction cup on the lower edge of the screen glass and pull upward to create a thin gap.

Insert Opening Pick
2 minSlide a plastic opening pick into the gap between the display glass and the aluminum frame.

Slice Perimeter Adhesive
5 minSlide opening picks along all four edges of the iPad to cut through the perimeter adhesive. Do not insert picks deeper than 3 mm.

Open Display Glass
2 minCarefully swing the display open from the left edge like a book page.

Unscrew Display Cable Shield
3 minRemove the four Phillips #000 screws securing the display flex cable shield plate.

Remove Shield Plate
1 minUse tweezers to lift the metal shield off the logic board and set it aside.

Disconnect Display Cables
2 minUse a plastic spudger to gently pop the display flex connectors straight off the logic board.

Separate Screen Assembly
1 minLift the display assembly off the iPad body and set it down on a clean workspace.

Unscrew Power Button Bracket
2 minLocate the top power button/Touch ID assembly and remove the two Phillips screws on its bracket.

Remove Metal Bracket
1 minLift away the metal retention bracket over the power button using tweezers.

Disconnect Sensor Flex Cable
2 minDisconnect the Touch ID / power button flex cable from the logic board using a spudger.

Pry Out Power Button
3 minGently pry up the top power button sensor and attached flex ribbon from the frame frame recess.

Position New Button Assembly
2 minPlace the replacement power button / Touch ID assembly flush into the top frame recess.

Secure Button Bracket
2 minReinstall the metal bracket over the button assembly and tighten the two Phillips screws.

Connect Sensor Cable
2 minPress the flex cable connector firmly onto the logic board socket until it clicks.

Reattach Display Cables
3 minAlign and press down the display flex cables onto their corresponding logic board connectors.

Reinstall Shield and Close
5 minReattach the metal shield with its four screws, apply new display adhesive, and firmly press the screen glass into the frame.
