Step-by-step

Heat the screen edges
3 minApply heat around the outer perimeter of the front glass using a heat gun for two minutes to soften the screen adhesive.

Attach a suction cup
2 minPlace a suction cup on the top edge of the glass and pull up firmly to create a small opening.

Insert an opening pick
2 minSlide a guitar pick into the gap between the glass screen and the aluminum frame.

Slice display adhesive
6 minSlide opening picks around all four edges of the screen to cut through the perimeter adhesive, avoiding the front camera area.

Open the display panel
2 minGently lift the right edge of the screen and swing it open like a book, resting it on its left side.

Unscrew the cable shield
3 minRemove the four Phillips screws securing the metal display cable cover to the logic board.

Remove the cable shield

3 minPry up the Wi-Fi/Bluetooth antenna connectors and the Lightning dock ribbon cable near the bottom of the board.

Heat the rear case
4 minApply heat to the center back of the aluminum enclosure to loosen the heavy adhesive securing the logic board.

Pry up the logic board
5 minCarefully slide a plastic spudger under the top edge of the logic board and pry upward along its length.

Remove the logic board
2 minLift the logic board out of the iPad body, guiding it free from remaining cables and frame pins.
