   Power off the iPad

   Press and hold the top power button until the slider appears, then slide to power down. Ensure the device is fully off before proceeding.

   Apply heat to front glass

   Use a heat gun or iOpener along the outer edges of the screen for two minutes to soften the perimeter adhesive. Do not overheat the LCD.

   Attach suction cup

   Place a suction cup near the bottom edge of the screen, just above the home button. Press down firmly to secure the seal.

   Insert opening pick

   Pull up gently on the suction cup to create a small gap along the bottom edge. Insert an opening pick no deeper than 3 mm into the seam.

   Slice bottom edge adhesive

   Slide the pick carefully along the bottom border to cut through the adhesive. Keep the pick shallow to avoid damaging internal cables.

   Slice side edge adhesive

   Move the pick along the left and right sides toward the top. Avoid inserting the pick near the top edge where the display flex cables reside.

   Pivot display open

   Gently lift the bottom edge of the screen and swing it open toward the top of the iPad. Rest the screen against a supportive object so it does not strain the top display cables.

   Remove display bracket screws

   Use a Phillips #000 screwdriver to remove the four screws securing the display cable retaining bracket to the logic board.

   Remove cable retaining bracket

   Use tweezers to lift the metal retaining bracket clear of the logic board and set it aside safely.

    Disconnect display flex cables

    Use a plastic spudger to pry up the digitizer and LCD cable connectors straight up from their sockets. Lift away the display assembly.

    Peel home button tape cover

    Use tweezers to carefully peel back the black tape strip covering the home button bracket and ribbon cable connection.

    Unscrew home button bracket

    Remove the two Phillips #000 screws holding the metal home button bracket to the display glass frame.

    Remove metal bracket

    Lift the metal bracket off the home button assembly with tweezers and store it in your screw tray.

    Pry home button flex cable

    Apply mild heat to the front of the home button glass area, then slide a thin spudger under the cable to unstick it from the display frame.

    Remove home button assembly

    Push gently on the front of the home button from the outside of the glass until the switch frees from the frame. Lift out the old button unit.

    Install new home button

    Align the replacement home button membrane into the display glass cutout from the back. Press down firmly along the adhesive gasket to seat it.

    Reattach home button bracket

    Place the metal bracket back over the home button assembly and reinstall the two Phillips #000 screws securely.

    Reconnect display assembly

    Align and press the LCD and digitizer flex cable connectors onto the logic board sockets until they click. Secure the metal cable bracket with its four screws.

    Seal display assembly

    Apply fresh pre-cut adhesive strips along the iPad aluminum frame perimeter. Press the screen firmly back down onto the frame to seal.
