Step-by-step

Heat display edges
3 minUse a heat gun or heated iOpener along the outer glass perimeter for two minutes to soften the frame adhesive.

Attach suction cup
2 minPlace a suction cup on the front glass near the home button and pull upward firmly to create a small gap.

Insert opening pick
2 minSlide a plastic opening pick into the gap created beneath the glass to prevent the adhesive from re-sealing.

Slice perimeter adhesive
5 minCarefully slide opening picks around all four edges, inserting no deeper than 3 mm along the right side to avoid damaging cables.

Open digitizer glass
2 minGently hinge the glass panel open from the left edge toward the right side like a book cover.

Unscrew LCD panel
3 minRemove the four Phillips #00 screws located at each corner of the exposed inner LCD screen.

Lift LCD display
2 minCarefully lift the top edge of the LCD display and fold it downward over the home button.

Remove connector shield
3 minUnscrew the three Phillips screws securing the metal display cable cover plate and lift it off with tweezers.

Disconnect display cables
3 minUse a spudger to pry the LCD flex cable and two digitizer flex cables straight up from their logic board sockets.

Unscrew speaker assembly
3 minRemove the Phillips screws holding the lower speaker module to the rear aluminum enclosure.

Disconnect speaker flex
2 minUse a spudger to pop the speaker's ribbon cable connector straight off the logic board socket.

Remove old speaker
2 minLift the faulty speaker assembly straight up out of the lower chamber of the iPad housing.

Install new speaker
3 minSeat the new speaker into the bottom enclosure, secure its screws, and snap the flex cable onto the logic board.

Reassemble and test display
5 minReconnect the digitizer and LCD flex cables, replace the metal shield plate, and power on the iPad to test audio playback.
