Step-by-step

Heat the lower glass edge
3 minApply a heat gun set to low heat along the bottom and side edges of the iPad glass for two minutes to soften the adhesive.

Attach the suction cup
2 minPlace a suction cup near the bottom edge of the screen, just above the Home button, and pull upward to create a small gap.

Insert opening picks
2 minSlide a plastic opening pick into the gap created by the suction cup to separate the adhesive.

Slice around the perimeter
4 minGuide opening picks along the top, left, and bottom edges, keeping the pick shallow on the right side to avoid damaging flex cables.

Open the digitizer glass
2 minGently lift the right edge of the digitizer and swing it open like a book page toward the left.

Remove LCD corner screws
3 minUnscrew the four Phillips screws securing the LCD panel at each corner, peeling back tape covering the top screws if necessary.

Lift the LCD panel
2 minCarefully lift the top edge of the LCD display and hinge it toward the bottom of the device to expose the main board shield.

Remove the metal EMI shield

2 minUse a spudger to gently pop the digitizer and LCD ribbon cable connectors straight up from their motherboard sockets.

Remove speaker retaining screws
3 minUnscrew the Phillips screws securing the bottom speaker modules to the lower iPad casing.

Heat the outer bottom casing
2 minApply heat to the outside rear lower aluminum case for one minute to loosen the glue beneath the speakers.

Pry out the speaker modules
3 minSlide a plastic opening tool under the speaker assemblies and gently pry them out of the lower chassis.

Position the replacement speakers
3 minAlign the new speaker modules into the bottom recessed channels and press down firmly to set the adhesive.

Reinstall speaker screws
2 minReplace and tighten all Phillips screws securing the new speaker modules to the frame.

Reconnect screen display cables
3 minSnap the LCD and digitizer flex connectors back onto the logic board and remove the battery isolation pick.
