Step-by-step

Heat the lower edge of the front glass
3 minApply heat using a heat gun set to low for 2-3 minutes along the bottom edge of the screen to soften the perimeter adhesive.

Attach suction cup to the glass
1 minPlace a suction cup on the lower portion of the front glass, just above the home button.

Insert an opening pick
2 minPull up gently on the suction cup to create a small gap, then insert a plastic opening pick under the glass.

Slice right edge adhesive
3 minHeat the right edge of the iPad and slowly slide the opening pick up along the side, being careful around the lower flex cable.

Slice top and left edge adhesive
3 minContinue heating and sliding opening picks along the top and left edges to fully separate the adhesive.

Open the front glass like a book
2 minGently swing the glass panel open from the left side, resting it flat on your workspace without straining the bottom flex cables.

Unscrew the LCD display panel
3 minRemove the four Phillips #00 screws located at each corner of the LCD panel.

Lift the LCD panel
2 minCarefully lift the top edge of the LCD panel using a spudger and fold it down toward the home button edge.

Unscrew the logic board shield plate
2 minRemove the three Phillips screws securing the metal shield cover over the logic board connectors.

Remove the metal shield
1 minUse precision tweezers to lift and remove the metal connector shield from the logic board.

Disconnect the battery terminal
2 minInsert a plastic guitar pick under the battery contact terminal to cut power to the logic board before proceeding.

Disconnect the LCD display flex cable
1 minUse the flat end of a spudger to pry the LCD connector straight up from its socket on the logic board.

Remove the LCD panel
1 minLift the LCD panel straight off the frame and store it on a clean, dust-free surface.

Disconnect the digitizer flex cables
2 minPry up the two digitizer display ribbon cables from their sockets on the logic board.

Remove the front glass assembly
1 minLift the front glass digitizer assembly away from the iPad frame completely.

Transfer the original home button assembly
5 minCarefully detach the home button ribbon cable and mounting bracket from the old glass and install them onto the replacement glass.

Clean old adhesive from the frame
4 minApply isopropyl alcohol to a microfiber cloth and scrape away all remaining adhesive residue from the aluminum frame tracks.

Apply new perimeter adhesive strips
4 minLay down fresh pre-cut double-sided adhesive strips along the perimeter frame of the iPad housing.

Connect new digitizer cables
2 minAlign and press down the two digitizer connectors into their sockets on the logic board until they click into place.

Reconnect the LCD and battery
3 minPlug the LCD cable back into the board, remove the battery blocker pick, and press the battery contact back down.

Reinstall the shield plate and LCD
3 minScrew the metal connector shield back into place, align the LCD panel over the housing, and reinsert the four corner screws.

Seal the front glass assembly
2 minPeel off the protective film from the adhesive strips and firmly press the front glass onto the iPad frame.
