Step-by-step

Power off the device
1 minPress and hold the top button and volume button until the slider appears. Drag the slider to power down the iPad completely.

Heat the screen perimeter
3 minApply heat along the outer edges of the glass using a heat gun for two minutes to soften the frame adhesive. Keep the heat gun moving constantly to avoid scorching.

Attach suction cup
1 minPlace a suction cup near the top edge of the screen, centered below the front camera. Press firmly to create a tight seal.

Insert opening pick
2 minPull upward on the suction cup to create a slight gap between the glass and the aluminum frame. Insert an opening pick into the gap.

Slice top edge adhesive
2 minSlide the pick along the top edge of the display to cut through the adhesive. Leave a pick in place to prevent the glass from re-sealing.

Slice left edge adhesive
3 minInsert a second pick and slowly slide it down the left side of the display. Keep the pick tip shallow to avoid hitting internal cables.

Slice right edge adhesive
3 minSlide a pick down the right edge of the iPad from top to bottom. Stop before reaching the bottom corner where flex cables reside.

Heat bottom edge
2 minReapply heat to the bottom edge of the iPad screen for one minute to soften adhesive around the home button.

Slice bottom edge adhesive
3 minCarefully slice through the bottom adhesive, keeping the pick extremely shallow around the home button to avoid severing its cable.

Open digitizer glass
2 minGently lift the glass front panel from the left side like opening a book cover. Prop the panel up against a stable object on the right side.

Unscrew LCD panel
3 minRemove the four Phillips #00 screws located at each corner of the inner LCD panel. Note that piece of tape may cover the top screws.

Lift top of LCD
2 minInsert a plastic spudger under the top edge of the LCD panel. Gently pry up to detach the top edge from the casing.

Fold LCD panel downward
2 minSwing the LCD screen down toward the bottom of the iPad so it lies flat over the opened glass panel. Do not strain the display cable at the bottom.

Remove connector shield screws
2 minRemove the three Phillips #00 screws securing the metal connector cover plate to the logic board.

Remove connector shield
1 minLift the metal connector shield off the logic board with tweezers and set it aside safely.

Disconnect battery
2 minSlide a plastic battery blocker or pick between the logic board and the battery screw contact to cut power.

Disconnect digitizer flex cables
2 minUse the flat end of a spudger to snap the two digitizer ribbon cable connectors straight up from their logic board sockets.

Disconnect LCD cable
2 minPry the LCD display cable connector straight up from its socket. Lift away the LCD screen and store it safely.

Heat home button assembly
1 minHeat the lower front area of the old digitizer glass for 30 seconds to soften the adhesive holding the home button bracket.

Transfer home button assembly
5 minPry up the retaining bracket and transfer the original home button assembly into the corresponding slot on the new digitizer.

Clean frame adhesive
5 minScrape off all old adhesive residue from the aluminum body using a plastic tool and wipe clean with isopropyl alcohol.

Apply fresh adhesive
4 minApply custom pre-cut double-sided adhesive strips along all four perimeter edges of the iPad body.

Connect display and digitizer cables
3 minPress the digitizer cables and LCD connector firmly onto their respective logic board sockets until they snap into place.

Reinstall metal shield
3 minRemove the battery blocker, seat the metal shield cover, and secure it with the three Phillips screws.

Secure LCD panel
3 minFold the LCD panel back into place on the frame and reinstall the four corner Phillips screws.

Seal new screen
3 minPeel off the adhesive protective backing, align the new digitizer glass carefully with the frame, and press firmly around all edges.
