Step-by-step

Heat the Glass Edges
3 minUse a heat gun around the front glass perimeter for two minutes to soften the frame adhesive.

Attach Suction Cup
2 minPlace a suction cup on the upper left corner of the screen and pull upward to create a slight gap.

Insert Opening Pick
2 minSlide a plastic opening pick into the gap created by the suction cup.

Slice Peripheral Adhesive
5 minSlide the pick gently around the top, left, and right edges to cut through the screen adhesive.

Open the Digitizer
2 minFold the digitizer glass open from the left side like a book cover, taking care near the bottom home button cable.

Unscrew LCD Corners
3 minPeel back the electrical tape covering the four LCD corner screws and remove them with a Phillips #00 screwdriver.

Lift the LCD Panel
2 minCarefully pry up the top edge of the LCD panel and fold it down over the digitizer.

Remove EMI Shield Screws
3 minUnscrew the metal display cable shield near the bottom right of the device and lift it off with tweezers.

Isolate the Battery
2 minInsert a plastic battery blocker pick between the battery contact pad and the logic board.

Disconnect Display Cables
3 minUse a spudger to pry up the LCD flex cable and both digitizer flex cables straight up from their sockets.

Disconnect Camera Flexes
2 minPop the front camera and rear camera flex connectors off the top end of the logic board.

Detach Antenna Connectors
2 minUse tweezers to carefully lift the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth coaxial antenna connectors off the logic board.

Unbolt Lightning Connector
3 minRemove the screws securing the Lightning charging port bracket to the lower enclosure.

Heat Aluminum Backing
3 minFlip the iPad over and apply heat to the rear aluminum shell directly behind the logic board for two minutes.

Pry Up the Logic Board
5 minSlide a flat plastic spudger underneath the board and gently lift it out of the rear case.
