   Power off and discharge the device

   Ensure your iPad battery is discharged below 25% to minimize thermal hazard. Hold down the Power button and turn off the device completely.

   Heat the glass perimeter

   Use a heat gun on low or a hair dryer to heat the edges of the front glass for 2 minutes to soften the underlying adhesive.

   Attach a suction cup

   Press a heavy-duty suction cup onto the lower portion of the glass digitizer, just above the Home button.

   Insert an opening pick

   Pull up gently on the suction cup to create a gap between the glass and metal frame. Slide a plastic opening pick into the gap.

   Slice bottom adhesive

   Slide the pick along the bottom edge near the Home button. Keep the pick shallow to avoid damaging the Home button ribbon cable.

   Slice left edge adhesive

   Move the pick around the bottom left corner and slide it all the way up the left side to separate the adhesive.

   Slice top edge adhesive

   Carefully slide the pick across the top edge near the FaceTime camera to break the top adhesive seal.

   Slice right edge adhesive

   Slide the pick down the right edge, stopping halfway down where the digitizer cables are located to avoid slicing them.

   Open digitizer glass

   Gently lift the left side of the front glass and swing it open like a book cover toward the right side.

    Unscrew the LCD panel

    Use a Phillips #00 screwdriver to remove the four screws located at each corner of the LCD panel.

    Lift LCD top edge

    Insert a plastic spudger under the top corners of the LCD panel and carefully pry it up out of the aluminum casing.

    Flip LCD panel over

    Carefully flip the LCD panel downward towards the bottom edge so it rests inverted over the digitizer glass.

    Remove battery screw

    Unscrew the single Phillips screw securing the battery contact pad to the logic board near the bottom right.

    Disconnect battery power

    Slide a plastic opening pick under the battery contact terminal to block power from reaching the board.

    Unscrew display shield

    Remove three Phillips screws securing the metal display cable shield and lift the shield off the board.

    Disconnect LCD and digitizer flexes

    Use a plastic spudger to pop the LCD, upper digitizer, and lower digitizer connectors straight up from their sockets.

    Heat the rear housing

    Flip the iPad over and apply heat evenly across the back casing for 2 to 3 minutes to warm the battery adhesive.

    Apply isopropyl alcohol

    Squirt a few drops of high-concentration isopropyl alcohol along the top and side edges of the exposed battery cells.

    Pry left battery cell

    Slide a flat plastic pry card under the left battery cell and slowly lift to break the softened adhesive underneath.

    Pry right battery cell

    Insert the pry card under the right battery cell and gently work it back and forth to loosen the remaining adhesive.

    Remove old battery

    Lift the old battery assembly completely out of the aluminum frame and dispose of it properly.

    Clean enclosure frame

    Wipe down the interior of the aluminum case with isopropyl alcohol and a microfiber cloth to remove old adhesive.

    Apply new battery adhesive

    Peel the protective backing off the new adhesive strips and attach them precisely onto the underside of your replacement battery.

    Install new battery

    Position the new battery into the iPad chassis, ensuring the contact prong aligns perfectly over the logic board screw hole.
