Step-by-step

Power Down Device
1 minPress and hold the power button, then slide the screen slider to turn off the iPad completely.

Heat Front Glass Perimeter
3 minApply a heated iOpener or heat gun around the outer edges of the iPad glass for 2-3 minutes to soften the display adhesive.

Attach Suction Cup
1 minPlace a suction cup onto the bottom center of the front glass, just above the home button.

Insert Opening Pick
2 minPull up firmly on the suction cup to create a small gap and insert a plastic opening pick under the glass frame.

Slice Peripheral Adhesive
5 minSlide opening picks along the sides and top edges to break the adhesive sealant. Keep picks away from the lower right side to avoid damaging digitizer cables.

Pivot Open Glass
2 minGently swing the front glass open from the right side, pivoting on the left edge like a book cover.

Unscrew LCD Frame
2 minRemove the four Phillips #00 screws located at each corner of the LCD panel.

Lift LCD Display
2 minCarefully lift the top edge of the LCD screen and fold it down toward the bottom edge of the device.

Remove Display Shield
2 minUnscrew the three Phillips #00 screws holding the metal EMI cable shield to the logic board and lift the shield off.

Disconnect Display Connectors
2 minUse a spudger to pry up and disconnect the LCD, digitizer, and home button flex cables from their board sockets.

Peel Bracket Tape
1 minPeel away the black tape covering the metal home button bracket on the back of the front digitizer glass.

Pry Home Button Bracket
2 minInsert a spudger under the plastic home button bracket and gently pry up to release it from the glass adhesive.

Remove Damaged Home Button
2 minPush the home button face inward from the front of the glass, then lift the button and attached ribbon cable clear.

Install New Home Button
3 minPosition the new home button assembly into the glass opening, aligning the rubber gasket flat against the glass surface.

Reattach Bracket
2 minPlace the bracket over the new home button and secure it with double-sided tape or fresh adhesive strips.
