   Heat front glass perimeter

   Use a heat gun or heated iOpener along the edge of the display for 2 minutes to soften the frame adhesive. Ensure heat is evenly distributed to prevent damaging the display.

   Attach suction cup

   Place a suction cup on the upper portion of the glass panel near the front camera. Press down firmly to create a tight seal against the glass.

   Insert opening pick

   Pull up on the suction cup to create a small gap between the glass and aluminum casing. Slide a plastic opening pick into the gap to hold it open.

   Slice top adhesive

   Move the opening pick along the top edge of the iPad to cut through the adhesive. Keep the pick inserted no deeper than 3/8 inch to protect internal components.

   Slice right edge adhesive

   Slide the pick around the top-right corner and down the right side toward the bottom corner. Take extra care near the bottom right where the Wi-Fi antenna is seated.

   Slice bottom adhesive

   Guide the pick along the bottom edge, working around the home button assembly. Keep the pick shallow to avoid striking internal ribbon cables.

   Slice left edge adhesive

   Slice along the left edge, stopping carefully near the bottom left corner. Avoid inserting the pick deeply where the digitizer flex cable is located.

   Open front glass panel

   Gently lift the right edge of the front glass and swing it open toward the left like a book. Prop the glass up against a stable object so it does not pull on the delicate cables.

   Remove LCD corner screws

   Use a Phillips #00 screwdriver to remove the four corner screws securing the LCD display. Place the screws in a tray to keep track of them.

    Lift LCD panel

    Insert a spudger gently under the top edge of the LCD display and lift it slightly out of the chassis. Be cautious not to strain the ribbon cable connected at the bottom-left.

    Flip LCD panel

    Gently pivot the LCD screen over to the left side so it lays face down on top of the opened glass assembly. This exposes the LCD display cable socket on the logic board.

    Disconnect LCD flex cable

    Use a spudger to flip up the retaining latch on the LCD ZIF connector. Gently pull the LCD flex cable out of the socket and set the LCD panel aside.

    Disconnect digitizer flex cables

    Flip up the retaining latches on the two ZIF connectors securing the digitizer flex cable. Slide the ribbon cables out of both sockets.

    Remove front glass assembly

    Lift the front glass panel away from the aluminum body and store it in a safe place. Keep dust off the inner surface of the digitizer.

    Unscrew battery logic board contact

    Remove the single Phillips #00 screw securing the battery contact pad to the logic board. Place a plastic opening pick underneath the contact to isolate power.

    Heat rear casing

    Turn the iPad over and apply heat to the rear aluminum shell behind the battery area for 3-4 minutes. Heating the aluminum softens the strong adhesive beneath the battery cells.

    Apply isopropyl alcohol

    Apply a small amount of high-concentration isopropyl alcohol along the edges of the battery cells. Allow 1-2 minutes for the liquid to weaken the glue.

    Pry up center battery cell

    Slide a plastic opening card under the middle battery cell. Work the tool gradually back and forth to separate the cell from the rear case.

    Pry up outer battery cells

    Insert the plastic card under the left and right battery cells to release them from the chassis. Never use sharp or metal tools that could puncture a cell.

    Remove old battery

    Lift the three-cell battery assembly out of the iPad body and discard it safely. Ensure the contact tab slides clear of the logic board without bending.

    Clean residual adhesive

    Apply isopropyl alcohol to a lint-free cloth and scrape off remaining glue residue inside the enclosure. Ensure the mounting surface is completely clean and dry.

    Apply new battery adhesive

    Attach pre-cut adhesive strips to the back of the new battery replacement. Peel off the protective backing film before installing.

    Install new battery assembly

    Position the new battery into the aluminum casing, sliding the contact tab under the logic board. Press down firmly across all three cells to set the adhesive.

    Secure battery connector screw

    Remove the plastic insulating pick from beneath the battery contact pad. Reinstall and tighten the single Phillips #00 screw to secure the connection.
