Step-by-step

Heat the display edges
3 minApply a heat gun around the outer edges of the front glass for 2-3 minutes to soften the strong perimeter adhesive.

Attach the suction cup
1 minPress a suction cup firmly onto the upper-left corner of the glass screen near the bezel edge.

Create a gap
2 minPull upward on the suction cup while inserting a plastic opening tool beneath the glass border.

Insert a guitar pick
1 minSlide a guitar pick into the gap created near the top corner to prevent the adhesive from cooling and resealing.

Slice top edge adhesive
4 minHeat the top edge and slide a guitar pick horizontally to cut the adhesive, taking care around the front camera.

Slice left edge adhesive
3 minReheat and slide guitar picks down the left edge of the iPad to separate the adhesive strip along the bezel.

Slice right edge adhesive
3 minCarefully slide a pick down the right edge, keeping the pick insertion shallow to avoid damaging internal cables.

Slice bottom edge adhesive
4 minSlice along the bottom bezel gently, keeping picks away from the Wi-Fi antenna located just to the right of the home button.

Open the front glass assembly
2 minLift the top edge of the front glass and open it like a book cover toward the left side of the device.

Unscrew the LCD
3 minRemove the four Phillips #00 screws located at each corner of the inner LCD screen.

Lift the LCD panel
2 minUse a plastic opening tool to gently lift the top edge of the LCD panel out of the rear casing.

Flip the LCD panel
2 minPivot the LCD panel over toward the left side and lay it face-down on top of the opened glass assembly.

Disconnect the LCD cable
2 minUse a prying tool to flip up the small retaining flap on the LCD ZIF connector, then pull the cable free.

Remove the LCD panel
1 minLift the LCD panel out of the frame and store it on a clean, dust-free microfiber cloth.

Disconnect the digitizer cable
2 minFlip open the two ZIF connector retaining tabs for the digitizer ribbon cable and slide the cable out.

Remove the broken digitizer
2 minPeel the digitizer cable free from the frame adhesive and set the old front glass assembly aside.

Clean the frame
5 minScrape off all old adhesive remnants from the aluminum bezel using a plastic tool and isopropyl alcohol.

Apply new adhesive
5 minPlace new double-sided adhesive strips tightly around all four edges of the internal frame.

Connect the new digitizer
3 minInsert the ribbon cables of the replacement digitizer into their ZIF sockets and snap the locking tabs down.

Connect and reseat LCD
3 minPlug the LCD cable into its connector, lock the tab, and flip the LCD back into its original resting position.

Secure LCD screws
2 minReinstall the four Phillips #00 corner screws to fasten the LCD display to the frame.

Seal the front glass
3 minPeel off the protective backing from the adhesive strips and firmly press the new front glass onto the frame.
