Step-by-step

Heat the front glass edges
3 minApply a heat gun or iOpener around the outer perimeter of the display for two minutes to soften the adhesive beneath the glass.

Slice the adhesive with an opening pick
5 minInsert a plastic opening pick under the top edge of the front glass and gently slide it around the perimeter to sever the adhesive bonds.

Fold open the digitizer assembly
2 minGently lift the top edge of the front glass digitizer and hinge it open toward the home button side of the frame.

Unscrew the LCD display panel
3 minRemove the four Phillips #00 screws located at the corners of the LCD panel.

Lift the LCD panel from the chassis
2 minCarefully pry the top edge of the LCD up and flip it toward the bottom side to expose the ribbon cable connection.

Disconnect the LCD ribbon cable
2 minUse a spudger to flip up the retaining latch on the LCD display ZIF connector and slide the cable out.

Disconnect the digitizer ribbon cable
2 minFlip up the dual retaining latches on the digitizer connector ZIF sockets and pull the digitizer ribbon cables free.

Remove the display and digitizer assemblies
1 minLift the LCD panel and front glass digitizer clear of the chassis and place them on a clean, soft surface.

Disconnect the battery terminal screw
2 minRemove the single screw securing the battery contacts to the logic board to power down the system completely.

Disconnect the dock connector cable
2 minUnplug the wide dock connector ribbon cable from its press-fit socket on the logic board using a spudger.

Disconnect antenna and control cables
3 minUse tweezers to carefully detach the Wi-Fi antenna coax cable and the volume button board ribbon connector from the logic board.

Remove the logic board screws
4 minRemove the Phillips screws securing the logic board array to the aluminum rear enclosure.

Lift and remove the logic board
3 minPry gently under the bottom edge of the logic board with a plastic opening tool and lift it out of the rear case.
