Step-by-step

Power off the iPad
1 minPress and hold the top button along with either volume button until the power slider appears. Slide to turn off the iPad completely before beginning.

Heat the front glass edges
3 minUse a heat gun or hair dryer to gently heat the perimeter of the front glass for 2 to 3 minutes to soften the adhesive.

Attach a suction cup
1 minPlace a suction cup near the top edge of the glass panel. Press down firmly to create a seal.

Create a gap with the suction cup
2 minPull up on the suction cup with firm, steady pressure to lift the glass and form a small gap above the frame.

Insert an opening pick
1 minInsert the tip of an opening pick into the gap created between the glass and the aluminum frame.

Slice top adhesive
3 minSlide the opening pick carefully along the top edge of the iPad to cut through the screen adhesive.

Slice left side adhesive
3 minGuide the pick down the left edge, keeping the insertion depth shallow to protect internal components.

Slice right side adhesive
3 minInsert a pick along the right edge and slide it top to bottom to separate the right side adhesive.

Slice bottom edge adhesive
3 minCarefully slide the pick along the bottom edge, taking care not to insert the pick more than 2 mm deep.

Open the digitizer glass
2 minGently swing open the glass panel from the left side like a book cover, resting it on a clean block.

Unscrew the LCD panel
3 minRemove the four corner Phillips screws securing the LCD panel to the iPad casing.

Tilt the LCD screen
2 minLift the top edge of the LCD panel carefully and hinge it downward toward the bottom edge.

Remove EMI shield screws
2 minUnscrew the fasteners holding the metal display cable shield in place near the bottom corner.

Remove the metal EMI shield
