   Power off device

   Press and hold the power button, then tap Power Off on the screen to completely shut down the Kindle.

   Unclip back cover

   Insert a plastic opening tool into the seam between the screen frame and the rear plastic case.

   Pry around edges

   Slide the opening tool along the perimeter of the Kindle to release all plastic clips holding the back cover.

   Remove back cover

   Lift the rear plastic case off the tablet chassis and set it aside.

   Peel back the piece of protective tape covering the battery connector plug.

    Touch a hot soldering iron tip to the structural anchor leg joints to melt the old solder.

    Grasp the damaged micro-USB port with tweezers while applying heat, then lift it off the board.

    Lay desoldering braid over the solder pads and press down with your iron to absorb excess solder.
