   Power off the tablet

   Press and hold the power button until the shutdown options appear, then tap Power Off. Ensure the display goes completely black before proceeding.

   Unclip the rear case

   Insert a thin plastic opening pick into the seam between the glass screen frame and the back cover. Pry gently to unlatch the plastic retaining clips.

   Release the surrounding clips

   Slide the opening pick around the entire outer perimeter of the Fire HD 8. Work along all four edges until the rear panel is fully unlatched.

   Remove the rear cover

   Lift the plastic rear cover straight up off the inner assembly. Set the back cover aside in a clean work area.

   Unscrew the motherboard shield

   Use a Phillips #00 precision screwdriver to remove the screws holding down the metal motherboard shield. Store screws in a magnetic tray.

   Remove the metal shield

   Use precision tweezers to lift the shield off the motherboard. Place it aside for reassembly.

   Disconnect the battery cable

   Insert the flat end of a plastic spudger beneath the battery flex cable connector. Pry straight up to disconnect power from the motherboard.

   Remove the battery pull tabs

   Grasp the adhesive stretch-release pull tabs located near the bottom of the battery. Slowly pull them flat and parallel to the chassis until freed.

   Remove the battery

   Gently lift the lithium-ion battery out of the frame using a plastic opening tool. Never use metal tools or apply direct force to the battery.

    Disconnect the digitizer ZIF cable

    Use a spudger to carefully flip up the small locking retaining flap on the digitizer ZIF connector. Slide the flex cable out of the socket.

    Disconnect the LCD display cable

    Flip up the black hinged flap on the LCD display ZIF connector. Gently slide the wide display ribbon cable out.

    Heat the screen perimeter

    Apply heat to the front glass edges using a heat gun set to low for about two minutes. This softens the internal double-sided adhesive.

    Attach the suction cup

    Place a suction cup on the lower portion of the front screen glass and press down to seal. Gently pull up on the ring to separate the screen slightly from the frame.

    Slice the screen adhesive

    Insert an opening pick into the gap created between the glass screen and chassis frame. Slide the pick around the perimeter to slice through the softened adhesive.

    Separate the screen assembly

    Lift the broken screen panel away from the chassis while carefully guiding the ribbon cables through the frame pass-through slots.

    Clean adhesive residue

    Apply 91% isopropyl alcohol to a lint-free cloth and scrape away all leftover adhesive along the frame rim using a spudger.

    Apply fresh double-sided adhesive

    Lay pre-cut adhesive strips onto the cleaned inner rim of the chassis. Peel off the protective film backing to expose the adhesive.

    Install the replacement screen

    Feed the new screen's LCD and digitizer flex cables through the chassis slots. Carefully position and press the screen firmly into place against the adhesive.

    Reconnect ribbon cables and power

    Slide the digitizer and LCD cables into their ZIF connectors and secure the locking flaps. Reconnect the battery flex cable and screw down the motherboard shield.

    Snap on the rear cover

    Align the plastic back cover with the tablet frame and press firmly along all edges until every clip clicks securely back into position.
