   Power off the device

   Press and hold the power button on the top edge, then tap 'Power Off' on the screen to completely shut down the Kindle Fire.

   Eject the microSD card tray

   Insert a SIM eject tool or small paperclip into the hole next to the microSD card slot on the side edge and push firmly to eject the tray.

   Heat the outer edges

   Apply a heated iOpener or heat gun around the perimeter of the rear shell for two minutes to soften the internal clips and adhesive.

   Insert an opening pick

   Insert the tip of a thin plastic opening pick into the seam between the display assembly and the rear plastic housing.

   Unsnap the top edge

   Slide the pick along the top edge of the frame to disengage the internal plastic retention clips.

   Unsnap the sides

   Continue sliding the pick down both lateral sides, gently twisting to pop the clips free from the chassis.

   Unsnap the bottom edge

   Slide the pick along the bottom edge, taking care near the speakers and charging port area.

   Separate the rear cover

   Lift the rear cover straight up from the display assembly and place it aside.

   Peel back protective tape

   Use tweezers to carefully peel back any black conductive tape covering the battery connector and motherboard area.

    Disconnect the battery cable

    Use the flat end of a spudger to gently pry the battery cable connector straight up out of its socket on the motherboard.

    Locate the charging port daughterboard

    Identify the small sub-board located at the bottom edge of the tablet frame containing the USB-C port.

    Unlock the ZIF connector

    Use the tip of a spudger to flip up the small locking flap on the ZIF connector securing the charging port ribbon cable.

    Disconnect the port ribbon cable

    Gently slide the ribbon cable out of its ZIF socket using fine tweezers.

    Unscrew the port bracket

    Remove the two Phillips #00 screws securing the metal USB-C port bracket to the inner chassis.

    Remove the metal bracket

    Use tweezers to lift and remove the metal retaining bracket covering the USB-C port.

    Unscrew the daughterboard

    Remove the remaining Phillips #00 screws securing the charging port sub-board to the frame.

    Remove the faulty charging port board

    Insert a spudger under the edge of the charging port board and lift it out of the lower recessed cavity.

    Position the new charging port board

    Place the replacement charging port board into its alignment slot on the lower plastic frame.

    Secure the daughterboard screws

    Thread and tighten the Phillips #00 screws to hold the new charging port board firmly in place.

    Reinstall the port metal bracket

    Set the metal bracket over the USB-C port housing and secure it with its dedicated Phillips #00 screws.

    Connect the ribbon cable

    Slide the ribbon cable straight into the ZIF connector socket until it seats fully.

    Lock the ZIF connector

    Press down the hinged locking flap on the ZIF connector to lock the ribbon cable into place.

    Reconnect the battery cable

    Align the battery connector over its motherboard socket and press down firmly until it clicks.

    Snap the rear cover into place

    Align the rear cover with the front assembly and press along all outer edges until all clips snap tightly closed.

    Reinsert the microSD card tray

    Slide the microSD card tray back into its slot on the side edge until it sits flush.
