Step-by-step
- 1
Turn off device
1 minPower down your Galaxy S5 completely and peel off the flexible rear cover using the top notch.

Remove battery
1 minUse a spudger or your fingernail to lift the battery out of its recess.

Remove SIM and microSD cards
1 minPress down and slide out both the SIM card and microSD card from their stacked slot.

Open display connector flap
2 minPry open the small plastic access door located near the middle of the battery compartment.

Disconnect display cable
1 minUse a plastic spudger to pry the display flex connector straight up from the motherboard.

Heat screen edges
3 minApply heat evenly around the outer edges of the glass screen using a heat gun set to low for two minutes.

Slice screen adhesive
5 minAttach a suction cup near the top speaker and insert a plastic pick along the edge to carefully slice through the adhesive.

Disconnect home button flex
2 minTilt the screen assembly up slightly from the top and unclip the home button cable at the bottom edge.

Unscrew midframe
3 minRemove all ten Phillips #00 screws securing the inner plastic midframe to the phone chassis.

Separate midframe
2 minApply firm downward pressure inside the battery cavity to pop the midframe out of the outer housing.

Disconnect volume button flex
2 minLocate the volume button ribbon connector on the upper-left edge of the frame and pry it off with tweezers.

Remove volume button module
2 minCarefully pry the volume button flex cable and its bracket away from the inner side rail.

Install new volume flex cable
3 minAlign the replacement volume button flex cable with the side notch and press the connector firmly into place.
