Step-by-step

Power off the phone
1 minPress and hold the power button, then tap Power Off on the screen. Ensure the device is fully shut down before proceeding.

Remove the rear cover
1 minInsert a fingernail or plastic prying tool into the notch near the top of the phone. Pry the back cover off the chassis.

Remove the battery
1 minLift the battery out from the recess at the bottom edge of the battery compartment.

Remove the SIM and microSD cards
1 minPress and slide out any installed microSD card or micro-SIM card from their slots.

Uncover the display connector
2 minUse tweezers to lift and remove the small plastic access cover located near the top right of the battery cavity.

Disconnect the display flex cable
1 minUse the flat end of a spudger to gently pop the display flex cable straight up off its motherboard socket.

Heat the front display edges
3 minApply heat around the perimeter of the screen using a heat gun or hair dryer for 2 to 3 minutes to soften the factory adhesive.

Attach the suction cup
1 minPress a suction cup firmly onto the top portion of the front glass screen.

Insert a plastic pry tool
2 minPull up on the suction cup to create a small gap at the top edge, then slide a plastic prying tool into the seam.

Slice the top and side adhesive
4 minCarefully slide your opening tool around the top, left, and right sides to separate the adhesive. Do not insert the pick deeper than 3mm.

Slice around the bottom soft keys
4 minWork gently around the bottom edge near the home button. Be extremely careful not to tear the fragile capacitive soft key ribbon cables.

Separate the display from the frame
2 minLift the display assembly up from the body while threading the attached display flex cable out through its frame slot.

Transfer the home button flex
3 minCarefully detach the home button bracket and cable from the old screen and install it onto the replacement screen.

Scrape off remaining adhesive
4 minPeel and scrape off all old display adhesive strips remaining along the edges of the phone frame.

Clean the frame rim
2 minWipe down the entire outer rim with a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with isopropyl alcohol to remove oil and dust.

Apply new display adhesive
3 minPosition double-sided adhesive strips precise to the perimeter frame of the phone body and press them down flat.

Thread the replacement screen flex cable
2 minPass the new screen's flex cable through the slot in the midframe while lowering the display toward the phone.

Press the display into place
2 minAlign the replacement glass carefully with the frame edges and apply firm, even pressure along all sides to set the adhesive.

Reconnect the display flex cable
1 minPress the display flex cable connector firmly into its socket inside the battery compartment until it clicks.

Reattach the connector cover
1 minPlace the small plastic access door back over the display connector socket and press until it snaps shut.

Reinstall components and back cover
2 minReinsert the SIM and microSD cards, replace the battery, and press the plastic back cover back into place.
