Step-by-step

Turn off the phone
1 minPress and hold the Power button, then select Power Off on the screen. Ensure the device is completely powered down before proceeding.

Remove the back cover
1 minInsert a plastic opening tool into the notch near the power button. Pry gently upward around the edges to unclip and remove the rear cover.

Extract the battery

Disconnect the earpiece speaker connector
2 minGently lift the earpiece speaker and sensor assembly flex cable straight up from the motherboard.

Disconnect the headphone jack cable
2 minPop the headphone jack flex connector off the top portion of the logic board.

Lift out the logic board
3 minGently pry under the bottom edge of the motherboard with a spudger. Lift the logic board free from the front panel assembly.

Inspect board components
4 minExamine the logic board under a magnifying glass or headlamp to locate broken joints or damaged traces.

Apply flux to solder pads
2 minDab a small amount of liquid or gel flux onto the target micro-soldering joints using fine tweezers or an applicator.

Reflow or desolder damaged joints
6 minUse a heated soldering iron tip and desoldering braid to clear bad solder from the pads before re-securing the component.
