Step-by-step

Power off the device
1 minPress and hold the Side and Volume Down buttons, then tap Power Off on the screen.

Eject the SIM card tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject pin into the pinhole at the top edge of the frame to push out and remove the SIM tray.

Heat the rear panel adhesive
3 minApply a heat gun set to low or a hair dryer along the edges of the rear cover for two minutes to soften the adhesive.

Attach the suction cup
2 minPlace a suction cup on the lower third of the rear panel and pull upward firmly to create a thin gap.

Slice through the rear adhesive
4 minInsert a plastic opening pick into the seam and slide it along all sides to separate the rear cover from the frame.

Remove the rear panel
1 minLift the rear cover completely off the chassis and lay it flat on your workspace.

Unscrew the lower speaker housing
2 minUse a Phillips #00 screwdriver to remove the five screws securing the lower speaker assembly.

Pry up the speaker assembly
2 minInsert the pointed end of a spudger under the top edge of the speaker module and lift it out of the chassis.

Disconnect the interconnect flex cables
2 minUse the flat edge of a spudger to snap off the main inter-board flex and display flex cable connectors from the bottom board.

Disconnect the antenna coaxial cables
2 minUse tweezers to carefully lift the blue and white coaxial antenna heads straight up off their board sockets.

Unscrew the microphone daughterboard
1 minRemove the single Phillips #00 screw securing the USB port and microphone daughterboard to the lower frame.

Remove the faulty daughterboard
2 minWedge a spudger under the edge of the daughterboard and lift the assembly out of the phone body.

Install the replacement microphone daughterboard
2 minSet the new board containing the primary microphone into position and press down lightly until aligned.
