Step-by-step

Eject the S-Pen
1 minPress down on the S-Pen tip until it clicks and pops out. Pull the stylus completely out of the device body.

Remove the SIM Card Tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool into the small hole on the top edge of the phone. Push firmly inward to pop out the SIM tray and pull it out.

Heat the Rear Glass Cover
3 minApply heat from a heat gun or hair dryer around the outer edges of the back glass for 2 to 3 minutes to soften the adhesive.

Attach the Suction Cup
1 minPlace a suction cup near the bottom edge of the rear glass cover and press down firmly to create a tight seal.

Slice the Rear Glass Adhesive
4 minPull up on the suction cup to create a tiny gap, then insert an opening pick. Slide the pick along all four edges to sever the back cover adhesive.

Lift off the Rear Glass
1 minGently lift the rear glass panel away from the chassis. Store it safely on a clean surface.

Unscrew the Midframe Screws
4 minUse a Phillips #00 screwdriver to remove the 20 screws holding the midframe to the display assembly frame.

Separate the Midframe from the Assembly
3 minHold the inner metal frame while pushing down gently near the battery area to release the perimeter clips. Remove the midframe completely.

Disconnect the Battery
1 minUse the flat tip of a plastic spudger to pry the battery connector straight up from its socket on the motherboard.

Disconnect the Volume Button Cable
1 minLocate the volume button flex cable on the left side of the motherboard. Use a spudger to pry up its press connector.

2 minSlide tweezers under the volume button ribbon cable and peel it off the internal frame carefully.

Remove the Physical Volume Buttons
1 minPush the metal volume button key caps inward through their frame slots using tweezers if you are replacing the physical buttons.

Position the New Physical Buttons
1 minAlign the new physical volume buttons and seat them into the dedicated cutouts on the side of the chassis.

Adhere the New Volume Flex Cable
1 minPlace the replacement volume flex cable over its alignment pins on the inner frame and press down firmly to secure its adhesive backup.

Reconnect the Volume Button Cable
1 minAlign the press connector over its motherboard socket and press down gently until it snaps into place.

1 minPress the battery cable connector back down onto its motherboard socket to restore power connectivity.

Reattach the Rear Glass Cover
