Step-by-step

Eject the S Pen
1 minPress the top of the S Pen until it clicks, then slide it out from the bottom slot.

Remove the SIM tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool or small paperclip into the hole at the top of the device to eject the tray.

Heat the rear glass
2 minUse a heat gun or hair dryer to warm the outer edges of the rear glass panel for two minutes.

Attach a suction cup
1 minPress a suction cup firmly onto the lower half of the back glass and pull up gently to create a gap.

Insert an opening pick
2 minSlide a thin plastic pick into the gap created between the glass back and the frame.

Slice the rear glass adhesive
3 minSlide the plastic pick along all four edges of the back cover to cut through the adhesive seal.

Remove the rear glass
1 minLift the rear glass panel off the phone body and place it safely on a clean surface.

Unbolt the midframe screws
4 minRemove the 20 Phillips #00 screws securing the plastic midframe to the display assembly.

Separate the midframe
2 minGently push on the exposed battery area while pulling the outer plastic midframe away from the front panel.

Disconnect the battery
1 minUse the flat end of a plastic spudger to pry the battery connector straight up from the motherboard.

Loosen the battery adhesive
2 minApply a few drops of high-concentration isopropyl alcohol along the sides of the battery bay.

Pry out the old battery
3 minInsert a plastic pry tool underneath the battery and gently lever it out of the well without bending it.

Clean old adhesive residue
2 minScrape away remaining glue in the battery bay using a spudger and isopropyl alcohol.

Apply battery adhesive strips
2 minLay fresh double-sided adhesive strips into the battery bay and peel off the protective backing.

Position the new battery
1 minLower the replacement battery into the well and press down firmly to set it in place.

Connect the battery cable
1 minAlign the flex connector with the motherboard socket and press down until it clicks into place.

Reattach the midframe
2 minAlign the midframe over the main assembly and press along the edges until it snaps together.

Reinstall midframe screws
4 minDrive the 20 Phillips #00 screws back into place to hold the midframe securely.

Apply rear glass adhesive
2 minPlace pre-cut rear adhesive strips along the perimeter channel of the frame.

Reinsert SIM tray and S Pen
