Step-by-step

Power down the device
1 minPress and hold the Power button on the right edge of the phone. Select 'Power off' on the screen and wait for the device to shut down completely.

Remove the S Pen stylus
1 minPress the end of the S Pen to release the locking mechanism. Slide the S Pen completely out of its slot at the bottom of the phone.

Locate the rear cover notch
1 minFind the small pry notch located on the top left edge of the phone near the Power button.

Unclip the top edge of the cover
1 minInsert a plastic opening tool or fingernail into the pry notch. Gently twist the tool to detach the top plastic clips of the rear panel.

Release the side perimeter clips
1 minSlide the plastic opening tool down along the left and right edges of the phone frame. Disengage all retaining clips securing the rear panel.

Separate the rear cover
1 minLift the rear cover away from the phone chassis and set it aside.

Locate the battery removal notch
1 minIdentify the small recessed notch located at the bottom edge of the battery compartment.

Pry up the old battery
1 minInsert a plastic spudger or fingernail into the battery notch. Lift the bottom end of the battery upward out of the housing.

Remove the battery from the frame
1 minGrasp the lifted edge of the battery and pull it out of the compartment completely.

1 minExamine the four gold spring contact pins in the top right corner of the battery recess for corrosion or bending.

Clean the battery terminals
2 minDampen a cotton swab with 90%+ isopropyl alcohol. Gently wipe the gold battery connector pins to remove dust or residue.

Prepare the replacement battery
1 minUnpack the new replacement battery and verify that its four gold contacts match the alignment of the original unit.

Align the replacement battery contacts
1 minPosition the top end of the replacement battery so its golden terminals align with the contact pins in the phone compartment.

Seat the new battery
1 minPress the bottom of the battery down firmly into the compartment until it lies flat inside the housing.

Align the rear cover tabs
1 minPosition the rear cover over the back of the phone, aligning the camera opening with the camera lens module.

Snap the rear cover into place
1 minPress firmly along the outer edges and center of the rear cover until all plastic clips snap securely shut.

Reinsert the S Pen stylus
1 minSlide the S Pen back into its bottom slot until it clicks into place flush with the frame.

2 minConnect the original Micro-USB charger to the phone to confirm charging activity, then power on the device.
