Step-by-step

Remove S Pen
1 minPull the S Pen stylus out from its slot at the bottom right corner of the device.

Remove Rear Cover
1 minInsert a fingernail or plastic opening tool into the notch at the top left of the rear cover and pry it off.

Remove Battery
1 minLift the battery out of its recess using the notch located at the bottom of the battery compartment.

Eject SIM Card
1 minPress the Micro-SIM card slightly inward until it clicks, then slide it out of its slot.

Remove MicroSD Card
1 minSlide the MicroSD card out of its slot located directly above the SIM card reader.

Remove Midframe Screws
3 minUse a Phillips #00 screwdriver to remove the 12 screws securing the rear midframe to the display assembly.

Pry Midframe Edges
3 minInsert a plastic prying tool between the front glass bezel and the midframe, working around the perimeter to release the plastic clips.

Separate Midframe
2 minLift the midframe assembly away from the front panel and motherboard.

Disconnect Volume Flex Cable
1 minUse a spudger to gently pop the volume button flex cable connector off its socket on the motherboard.

Peel Volume Flex Cable
2 minCarefully slide tweezers beneath the volume button flex cable to peel it away from the inner frame adhesive.

Remove Physical Volume Key
1 minUse tweezers to push and lift the metallic volume button rocker key out of its slot in the frame.

Insert New Volume Key
1 minPosition the replacement physical volume key into the frame slot until it sits flush.

Install New Flex Cable
2 minAlign the replacement volume button flex cable onto the adhesive pad on the midframe wall and press gently into place.

Attach Volume Flex Connector
1 minAlign the press connector over its motherboard socket and press down firmly until it snaps into place.

Reattach Midframe
2 minAlign the midframe over the motherboard assembly and press down around the outer edges until all plastic clips snap securely.

Tighten Midframe Screws
3 minReinstall the 12 Phillips #00 screws to secure the midframe into place.

Reinsert Cards and Battery
2 minSlide the MicroSD card and SIM card back into their slots, then reinsert the battery into the compartment.

Replace Rear Cover
1 minAlign the back cover over the rear of the phone and snap it closed along the edges, then reinsert the S Pen.
