Step-by-step

Remove the S Pen
1 minEject the S Pen stylus from the bottom-right corner of the device and set it aside.

Pry Off the Rear Cover
1 minInsert a plastic opening tool into the notch near the power button and pry the rear panel off.

Remove the Battery
1 minUse your fingernail or a plastic opening tool at the top recess to lift the battery out of the phone.

Remove SIM and MicroSD Cards
1 minSlide the SIM card and microSD card out of their respective slots using your thumb.

Unscrew the Midframe
3 minUse a Phillips #00 screwdriver to remove the 12 screws securing the rear midframe.

Unclip the Midframe
3 minInsert a plastic opening tool between the glass display assembly and the outer plastic rim to release the perimeter clips.

Lift Off the Midframe
2 minCarefully separate the midframe from the display assembly to expose the internal daughterboard and motherboard.

Disconnect the Antenna Cables
2 minUse tweezers or a spudger to pop off the red and white antenna coaxial connectors from the bottom daughterboard.

Disconnect the Daughterboard Ribbon Cable
2 minPry up the press-fit ribbon cable connector linking the daughterboard to the main motherboard.

Disconnect Soft Key Flex Connectors
2 minCarefully pry up the two soft key ribbon cable connectors located at the bottom of the daughterboard.

Remove the Microphone Daughterboard Assembly
3 minGently slide a spudger beneath the daughterboard and pry it up from the adhesive holding it to the frame.

Set the Replacement Daughterboard
2 minPlace the new daughterboard equipped with the primary microphone into the bottom recess of the frame.

Reconnect Soft Key Connectors
2 minAlign and gently press down on the two soft key cable connectors to lock them onto the new board.

Connect Main Ribbon and Antennas
3 minPress the daughterboard ribbon connector back onto the mainboard and snap the two antenna cables onto their posts.

Snap On the Midframe
2 minAlign the midframe over the chassis and press along the edges until all plastic tabs snap shut.

Secure Midframe Screws
3 minReinstall the 12 Phillips #00 screws to firmly attach the midframe back onto the phone.

Reinstall Cards, Battery, and Back Cover
2 minReinsert the SIM card, microSD card, battery, rear panel cover, and S Pen.
