Power off the phone

Remove the S Pen

Locate the rear cover notch
1 minFind the small fingernail pry notch on the upper-left edge of the rear plastic panel.

Pry open the top corner
1 minInsert a plastic prying tool or fingernail into the top corner notch and gently lift outward.

Unclip the top edge
1 minSlide the plastic prying tool along the top edge to release the plastic retaining clips.

Unsnap the side edges
1 minMove the prying tool down both long sides of the phone to disengage all lateral clips.

Remove the rear cover
1 minLift the rear cover away from the chassis completely and place it aside.

Locate the battery recess notch
1 minIdentify the small pry indentation located at the bottom edge of the battery well.

Insert the spudger tool
1 minPlace the flat edge of a plastic spudger into the battery recess notch.

Pry up the old battery
1 minLever the spudger upward to dislodge the battery from its internal compartment.

Remove the old battery
1 minGrasp the lifted end of the battery and pull it out of the phone.

Inspect the contact pins
1 minExamine the three gold battery terminal pins inside the phone for dust or corrosion.

Clean terminal pins
2 minLightly dampen a cotton swab with isopropyl alcohol and gently wipe the gold contact pins.

Align the replacement battery
1 minOrient the new battery so its gold contacts match up with the terminal pins in the compartment.

Press battery into place

Align the rear cover
1 minPosition the rear cover back onto the rear chassis, starting over the camera lens cutout.

Snap cover clips secure

Reinsert the S Pen
