Step-by-step

Eject the S Pen
1 minPress and pull the S Pen stylus out from the bottom right corner slot of the device.

Remove rear cover
1 minInsert a plastic prying tool or fingernail into the notch near the power button and lift the rear panel off.

Remove the battery
1 minPry up the battery from the notch located at the bottom edge of the battery bay and lift it out.

Remove SIM and microSD cards
1 minPress inward on the SIM and microSD cards to release them, then slide both cards completely out of their slots.

Unscrew the midframe
3 minUse a Phillips #00 screwdriver to remove the 11 screws securing the plastic midframe to the phone chassis.

Pry the midframe loose
2 minInsert a plastic opening tool into the seam between the display assembly and midframe near the volume buttons.

Unclip midframe perimeter
2 minSlide the plastic tool around the full perimeter of the phone to disengage all internal plastic clips.

Remove the midframe
1 minGently lift the rear midframe assembly away from the display chassis to expose the motherboard.

Disconnect main flex cable
1 minUse the flat end of a spudger to pop up the main ribbon cable connector from the bottom daughterboard socket.

Disconnect antenna cable
1 minPry up the gold coaxial antenna head from its housing on the lower daughterboard using tweezers or a spudger.

Unscrew daughterboard
1 minRemove the single Phillips #00 screw holding the lower daughterboard assembly in place near the micro-USB port.

Remove lower daughterboard
2 minGently lever up the daughterboard containing the faulty microphone and remove it from the lower frame.

Install new daughterboard
2 minSet the new microphone/daughterboard assembly into the bottom recess of the frame, ensuring port alignment.

Secure daughterboard screw
1 minReinstall the single Phillips #00 screw to lock the new daughterboard onto the inner frame.

Reconnect antenna cable
1 minAlign the coaxial antenna head over the daughterboard terminal and press straight down until it clicks.

Connect lower flex cable
1 minPress the main ribbon flex connector firmly down onto its matching socket on the new daughterboard.

Snap midframe in place
2 minPosition the midframe over the front assembly and press firmly along all edges until every clip snaps shut.

Secure midframe screws
3 minThread and tighten all 11 Phillips #00 screws back into the midframe.

Reinstall battery and cards
2 minSlide the SIM and microSD cards back into their slots, insert the battery, and push the S Pen into its bay.

Attach rear cover
1 minPress the rear cover onto the back of the phone until it snaps flush around all sides.
