Step-by-step

Remove the S Pen and SIM tray
2 minEject the S Pen from its slot at the bottom of the phone. Insert a SIM eject tool into the top tray hole to remove the tray.

Heat the rear glass panel
3 minApply a heat gun or heated iOpener along the edges of the back cover for two minutes to soften the adhesive.

Attach suction cup and open a gap
3 minPlace a suction cup near the bottom edge of the back glass and pull up firmly. Insert an opening pick into the seam.

Slice through the back cover adhesive
5 minSlide opening picks around all four edges of the back cover to cut through the perimeter adhesive.

Lift away the rear glass cover
3 minGently lift the back cover off the frame and set it aside. Clean off any residual adhesive using isopropyl alcohol.

Unscrew the upper motherboard bracket
3 minRemove the five Phillips #00 screws securing the upper motherboard shield and wireless charging assembly.

Disconnect and remove the wireless charging coil
3 minDisconnect the wireless charging coil press connector from the motherboard. Peel the coil assembly off the phone.

Unscrew the lower speaker module
3 minRemove the five Phillips #00 screws holding the loudspeaker assembly over the sub-board at the bottom.

Remove the loudspeaker module
2 minUse a plastic spudger to pry up the loudspeaker enclosure and remove it from the device.

Disconnect the main interconnect cables
3 minUse the flat end of a spudger to disconnect the main display and daughterboard flex cables from the lower sub-board.

Unscrew the sub-board
2 minRemove the single Phillips #00 screw securing the microphone daughterboard to the bottom chassis frame.

Pry up the microphone sub-board
3 minInsert a spudger under the sub-board containing the primary microphone and carefully lift it out of its recess.

Install the new microphone sub-board
3 minPosition the replacement sub-board into the lower housing and press down gently until it aligns properly.

Secure the sub-board and reconnect flex cables
4 minReinstall the Phillips #00 screw on the sub-board, then snap the interconnect flex cable connectors back onto the board.

Reinstall the loudspeaker module
3 minPlace the loudspeaker assembly back in position and secure it with its five Phillips #00 screws.

Reattach the wireless charging coil
4 minReconnect the wireless charging flex connector, press the coil bracket into place, and tighten its five screws.

Apply new back glass adhesive
5 minApply new pre-cut adhesive strips around the frame rim and firmly press the rear glass cover onto the chassis.

Reinsert the SIM tray and S Pen
1 minSlide the SIM card tray back into the top slot and dock the S Pen into the bottom slot.
