Step-by-step

Turn off the phone
2 minPress and hold the Power and Volume Down buttons, then tap Power Off on the screen. Ensure the device is completely powered down before starting.

Remove the SIM tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool into the hole at the top edge of the phone. Push firmly to pop out the tray, then pull it completely out.

Heat the rear panel
3 minApply a heated iOpener or heat gun to the edges of the back cover for two minutes. This softens the factory adhesive holding the rear glass.

Attach suction handle
2 minPress a suction cup firmly onto the lower portion of the rear glass. Pull upward gently to create a small gap between the glass and the body.

Insert opening pick
2 minInsert the tip of a plastic opening pick into the gap created by the suction cup. Keep the pick shallow to avoid damaging internal components.

Slice rear adhesive
4 minSlide the pick around all four edges of the back cover to cut through the adhesive perimeter. Reapply heat if the pick meets strong resistance.

Lift off rear cover
2 minCarefully lift the rear glass panel away from the frame and set it aside. Clean off any residual adhesive strips remaining on the frame.

Unscrew upper cover
3 minRemove the Phillips #00 screws securing the upper plastic motherboard frame and NFC assembly.

Detach upper frame cover
2 minUse a plastic spudger to gently pry up the plastic motherboard shield from the edges. Lift the shield away to expose the main board.

Disconnect the battery
1 minPry the battery press connector straight up from the motherboard using the flat end of a spudger. This prevents electrical shorts during repair.

Unscrew lower speaker
2 minRemove the Phillips #00 screws holding the lower loudspeaker housing to the bottom frame.

Remove loudspeaker module
2 minInsert a spudger under the edge of the lower speaker box and pry it up out of the chassis.

Disconnect fingerprint flex
1 minLocate the optical fingerprint reader connector on the daughterboard and pry it straight up with a spudger.

Remove optical fingerprint sensor
2 minGently pry the optical fingerprint sensor module out of its recessed slot in the frame using tweezers.

Install new fingerprint sensor
3 minAlign the replacement optical sensor module precisely into the frame cutout and connect its flex cable firmly to the board.
