Power Off the Phone
1 minPress and hold the Power and Volume Down buttons, then tap Power Off on the screen. Ensure the device is completely powered down before starting.
- 2
Remove the SIM Card Tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject pin into the hole on the left edge of the phone. Press firmly inward to eject the SIM tray and remove it completely.
- 3
Warm the Rear Cover Edges
2 minApply mild heat with a heat gun or hair dryer around the outer perimeter of the back cover for 1 to 2 minutes. This softens the plastic retaining clips and slight adhesive.
- 4
Unclip the Lower Back Cover Edge
3 minInsert a thin plastic prying tool into the seam between the back cover and the frame near the bottom corner. Slide the tool to release the initial plastic clips.
- 5
Release Side and Top Clips
3 minWork the plastic prying tool along the left, right, and top edges of the phone. Pry gently to pop all remaining clips around the frame without bending the cover.
- 6
Lift Off the Back Cover
1 minSeparate the back cover completely from the phone chassis. Place the cover aside on a clean workspace.
- 7
Remove the Rear Frame Screws
4 minUse a Phillips #00 screwdriver to unthread all screws securing the lower loudspeaker housing and motherboard cover. Place the screws in a magnetic mat or small container.
- 8
Disconnect the Battery Flex Cable
1 minUse the flat edge of a spudger to snap the battery connector straight up off the motherboard. This prevents electrical shorts while working inside.
- 9
Pry Out the Speaker Housing
2 minInsert the spudger under the edge of the bottom plastic loudspeaker module. Pry gently upward to detach the housing from the lower frame.
- 10
Remove the Old Speaker Module
1 minLift the loudspeaker component completely out of the phone. Inspect the recess for dust or foreign particles and clean it if necessary.
- 11
Install the Replacement Loudspeaker
2 minPosition the new loudspeaker assembly into the lower recess of the phone frame. Press down lightly so it sits completely flat.
- 12
Reconnect the Battery Cable
1 minAlign the battery flex connector over its motherboard socket and press down firmly until it clicks into place.
- 13
Reinstall the Lower Cover Screws
3 minPlace the loudspeaker cover back over the lower circuit board and drive the Phillips #00 screws back in until snug.
- 14
Snap the Back Cover into Place
2 minAlign the rear cover with the phone body and press firmly along all edges until you hear all the perimeter clips snap shut.
- 15
Reinsert the SIM Card Tray
1 minSlide the SIM card tray back into its slot on the side of the phone until it sits flush with the outer frame.
