Step-by-step

Remove the SIM tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool into the hole on the left edge of the phone. Push firmly until the tray pops out, then remove it.

Heat the rear panel
2 minApply heat from a heat gun or hair dryer around the edges of the back cover for two minutes to soften the factory adhesive.

Attach the suction cup
1 minPlace a suction cup near the bottom edge of the back panel. Gently pull upward to create a small gap between the cover and the frame.

Slice through the adhesive
4 minInsert a plastic opening pick into the gap created by the suction cup. Slide the pick around the edges to cut through the perimeter adhesive.

Remove the back cover
1 minCarefully lift the rear cover completely off the phone frame. Place it face down in a clean area.

Unscrew the motherboard bracket
3 minUse a Phillips #000 screwdriver to remove all screws securing the top plastic midframe and speaker housing.

Unsnap the plastic midframe
2 minInsert a spudger into the seam along the side of the midframe assembly. Gently pry up to release the plastic clips and remove the frame.

Disconnect the battery
1 minUse the flat edge of a spudger to pop the battery connector straight up off the motherboard socket.

Disconnect the volume button flex
2 minLocate the volume button flex connector on the side of the motherboard. Pry it up carefully with a plastic tool.

Pry out the damaged volume flex
3 minUse fine-tip tweezers to gently peel the volume button ribbon cable away from the internal chassis recess.

Insert the new volume flex
2 minAlign the replacement volume button flex cable into the frame groove. Press down firmly on the double-sided tape backing to stick it into place.

Connect the volume button flex
1 minPress the volume button flex connector down onto its matching motherboard socket until it clicks into place.

Reconnect the battery press connector
1 minAlign the battery cable over its socket on the motherboard and press down firmly to re-establish power connection.

Reinstall the plastic midframe
3 minSnap the plastic midframe shield back onto the chassis and replace all Phillips #000 screws securely.

Seal the back cover
3 minApply new custom perimeter adhesive strips around the frame, align the rear cover, and press firmly along all edges to seal.
