Step-by-step

Power off the device
1 minPress and hold the power button, then select Shut Down on screen to completely turn off the device.

Eject the SIM card tray

3 minUse a Phillips #000 screwdriver to remove all retaining screws securing the motherboard cover and frame.

Pry off the midframe

Disconnect the battery flex
1 minPry the battery press connector straight up off the motherboard using a plastic spudger to cut power.

Disconnect volume flex connector
2 minLocate the volume button ribbon cable press-fit connector on the motherboard and disconnect it with a spudger.

Peel out old volume button flex
3 minSlide fine tweezers beneath the volume flex assembly inside the chassis to loosen its adhesive and remove it.

Install replacement volume flex
2 minAlign the new volume flex cable with the side chassis recess and press firmly so the adhesive sticks.

Connect new volume flex
1 minAlign and gently press the replacement volume cable connector onto the motherboard socket until it clicks.

Reconnect the battery
1 minPress the battery cable socket straight down onto the motherboard until securely seated.

Reinstall midframe bezel
3 minPosition the midframe cover, snap clips into place, and secure all Phillips screws firmly.

Reseal back cover
3 minApply fresh back cover adhesive strips along the phone rim, then press the back panel down firmly.
