Step-by-step

Eject the SIM tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool into the hole next to the tray on the side of the phone. Push firmly to eject the tray and set it aside.

Heat the back cover
2 minUse a heat gun or iOpener around the rear edges of the phone for 2 minutes to soften the rear panel adhesive.

Attach the suction handle
1 minPlace a suction handle on the lower portion of the back cover and pull gently to create a small gap near the edge.

Insert an opening pick
2 minInsert an opening pick into the seam created between the back cover and the midframe.

Slice the back cover adhesive
3 minSlide the pick carefully around all edges of the rear panel to slice through the adhesive tape.

Remove the back cover
1 minLift the rear cover completely off the phone body and set it face down on a clean surface.

Unscrew the loudspeaker
2 minUse a Phillips #00 screwdriver to remove the screws securing the lower loudspeaker assembly.

Remove the loudspeaker module
1 minPry up the loudspeaker module using a flat spudger and lift it out of the bottom chassis.

Disconnect the main flex cable
1 minPry the bottom press connector of the main interconnect flex cable off the daughterboard using a spudger.

Disconnect the antenna cable
1 minUse precision tweezers to carefully pop the coaxial antenna cable off its socket on the daughterboard.

Unscrew the daughterboard
1 minRemove the single Phillips #00 screw securing the daughterboard to the bottom of the housing.

Remove the microphone sub-board
2 minGently lever up the daughterboard containing the defective microphone using a spudger and remove it.

Clean the microphone acoustic port
2 minUse a cotton swab dampened with isopropyl alcohol to clear dust or debris from the microphone hole in the frame.

Install the new sub-board
2 minSet the new microphone daughterboard into the bottom well and press down lightly until it rests flat.

Reconnect the antenna cable
1 minAlign the coaxial antenna cable head with its socket and snap it gently back into place using tweezers.

Attach the main flex cable
1 minAlign and snap the main interconnect flex connector down onto the socket on the new sub-board.

Reinstall the loudspeaker
2 minPosition the loudspeaker module over the daughterboard and secure it with the saved Phillips screws.

Apply back cover adhesive
3 minApply pre-cut replacement adhesive tape along the frame perimeter after clearing away old tape remnants.

Seal the back cover
2 minAlign the back panel carefully over the frame and press firmly along all edges to secure the seal.
