Step-by-step
- 1
Power off the phone
1 minPress and hold the power button, then tap Power Off on the screen. Ensure the device is completely powered down before beginning.
- 2
Eject the SIM tray
1 minInsert the SIM eject tool into the hole next to the tray on the left side of the frame. Push firmly to eject the tray and set it aside.
- 3
Heat the rear panel
2 minApply heat evenly across the edges of the back cover using a heat gun set to low heat for approximately 2 minutes. This softens the underlying adhesive.
- 4
Attach the suction cup
1 minPress a suction cup firmly onto the lower portion of the rear panel, near the bottom edge.
- 5
Create an opening seam
2 minPull up gently on the suction cup while steadying the frame to form a slight gap along the bottom edge. Insert a thin plastic opening pick into the seam.
- 6
Slice the perimeter adhesive
3 minSlide the pick slowly around all edges of the rear cover to cut through the glue. Reheat the edges if the pick begins to catch or stick.
- 7
Remove the back cover
1 minLift the rear panel away from the chassis carefully. Set it on a clean work surface.
- 8
Unscrew the loudspeaker cover
2 minRemove the seven Phillips #000 screws securing the lower plastic speaker housing to the sub-frame.
- 9
Pry out the loudspeaker
2 minInsert a spudger under the notch on the speaker housing and pry upward to free it. Remove the loudspeaker module completely.
- 10
Disconnect the main flex cable
1 minPry the main interconnect flex cable straight up from its connector socket on the sub-board using a spudger.
- 11
Disconnect the antenna cable
1 minUse precision tweezers to pry up the small coaxial antenna cable head from its terminal on the sub-board.
- 12
Remove the microphone sub-board
2 minSlide a flat spudger beneath the lower sub-board and lift it out of the phone recess.
- 13
Clear the microphone channel
2 minInspect the mic port opening on the bottom of the phone frame and remove any dust using tweezers or compressed air.
- 14
Position the new sub-board
2 minPlace the replacement sub-board into the lower recess, aligning the rubber microphone gasket directly over the port hole.
- 15
Reconnect the antenna cable
1 minAlign the antenna cable connector over its press-fit socket on the sub-board and press down lightly until it snaps into place.
- 16
Reconnect the main flex cable
1 minPress the main flex connector firmly onto the sub-board socket until it locks into position.
- 17
Reinstall the loudspeaker
2 minPlace the loudspeaker housing back over the bottom sub-board assembly and press down gently. Secure it with the seven Phillips #000 screws.
- 18
Apply new back cover adhesive
3 minClean off remaining original adhesive from the frame perimeter with isopropyl alcohol, then stick pre-cut adhesive tape along the rim.
- 19
Seal the back cover
2 minAlign the rear panel over the frame and press down firmly around all edges to bond the adhesive completely.
