Step-by-step

Power down the device
1 minPress and hold the power button, then tap Shut Down on the screen to turn off the phone completely.

Eject the SIM tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool or thin paperclip into the hole on the left edge to pop out the SIM tray.

Warm the back panel
2 minApply gentle heat along the perimeter of the rear cover using a heat gun or hair dryer for two minutes.

Create a seam gap
2 minPress a suction cup onto the lower back panel and pull up firmly to create a gap between the cover and frame.

Unclip the rear panel
3 minInsert a plastic prying tool into the seam and slide it along the edges to release the plastic clips and adhesive.

2 minSlide fine-tip tweezers underneath the volume flex ribbon and carefully peel it away from the internal side frame.

Position the new volume button flex cable
2 minAlign the replacement volume button flex cable into the side frame recess and press the adhesive backing down.

Reconnect the button and battery cables
2 minPress the volume flex connector and the battery connector firmly onto their motherboard sockets until they click.

Reattach the motherboard shield
3 minPlace the upper motherboard shield onto the chassis and reinstall the Phillips #00 screws.

Reconnect fingerprint sensor and seal back cover
3 minSnap the fingerprint ribbon back onto the board, align the rear cover, and press firmly around all edges to lock it in place.
