Step-by-step
- 1
Turn off the phone
1 minPress and hold the power button, then select Power Off on the screen to completely shut down the device.

Eject the SIM card tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool into the hole beside the SIM tray on the left edge and push gently to release it.

Heat the back cover edges
3 minApply heat to the perimeter of the back cover using a hair dryer or heat gun for two minutes to soften the adhesive.

Attach a suction cup
2 minPlace a suction cup near the bottom edge of the back panel and pull up firmly to create a small gap.

Insert an opening pick
2 minSlide a plastic opening pick into the gap created beneath the back cover edge.

Slice through perimeter adhesive
4 minSlide the opening pick around all four sides of the phone frame to separate the back cover.

Remove the back cover
1 minLift the rear cover away from the main frame carefully and set it aside.

Unscrew the upper motherboard shield
4 minUse a Phillips #000 screwdriver to remove the screws holding the plastic upper midframe shield in place.

3 minUse fine tweezers to carefully peel the volume button ribbon cable away from the internal side wall.

Remove physical button keys
2 minPush the external volume button caps inward through the side frame slot using a flat spudger to clear debris or replace them.

Insert the new volume button flex cable
3 minPosition the replacement volume button flex cable into the side frame slot and press it down securely against the adhesive surface.

Plug in the button flex connector
2 minAlign the button flex cable connector with its socket on the motherboard and press down until it snaps into place.

Reconnect the battery cable
1 minAlign the battery connector over its motherboard port and press firmly until it clicks.

Secure the motherboard shield
4 minPlace the top midframe shield back onto the chassis and reinstall all Phillips #000 screws.

Apply back cover adhesive
3 minClean remaining old glue with isopropyl alcohol and lay new pre-cut adhesive tape along the rear perimeter.

Reattach the back cover
2 minAlign the back cover over the chassis and press firmly along all edges to seal the adhesive.

Reinsert the SIM tray
1 minSlide the SIM tray back into its slot on the left frame until it sits flush.
