Step-by-step

Turn off the phone
1 minPress and hold the power button, then tap Power Off on the screen. Ensure the device is fully shut down before proceeding.

Remove the SIM tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool into the small hole on the left edge of the phone. Push inward to pop the SIM tray out, then remove it.

Heat the back cover
2 minUse a heat gun or hairdryer to warm the outer edges of the back cover for 2 minutes. This softens the internal perimeter adhesive.

Attach suction cup
1 minPlace a suction cup near the bottom edge of the back cover. Pull gently upward to create a slim opening between the cover and the frame.

Insert opening pick
2 minInsert a thin plastic opening pick into the gap created by the suction cup. Take care not to insert it too deeply to avoid damaging internal ribbons.

Slice adhesive
4 minSlide the plastic pick carefully along all four edges of the back cover to cut through the perimeter adhesive.

Remove the back cover
1 minSlowly lift the back cover off the chassis. Set it aside in a clean workspace area.

Unscrew midframe
3 minUse a Phillips #000 screwdriver to remove all screws securing the upper plastic midframe cover.

Unclip the midframe
2 minInsert a flat spudger along the edge of the midframe cover to release the plastic retention clips. Lift the cover away from the phone.

Disconnect the battery
1 minUse the edge of a plastic spudger to lever up and disconnect the battery press connector from the motherboard socket.

Disconnect the power flex
1 minLocate the power button flex cable connector on the side of the motherboard. Gently pop the connector up with your spudger.

Remove power button flex
2 minUse fine tweezers to gently peel the power button flex cable and key assembly off the side metal housing.

Install new power flex
2 minAlign the replacement power button flex assembly into the slot on the inner frame. Press gently so the adhesive secures it in place.

Connect the new flex cable
1 minAlign the flex cable press connector over its motherboard socket and press straight down until it clicks securely into place.

Reconnect the battery
1 minAlign the battery flex connector over its socket on the motherboard and press down firmly to snap it back into place.

Reinstall the midframe
3 minLower the midframe cover back into position and press down around the edges to snap the clips shut. Reinstall all Phillips screws.

Reattach back cover
3 minApply new adhesive tape strips along the rim of the frame. Align the back cover precisely over the device and press firmly along the perimeter.
