Step-by-step

Power off the phone
1 minPress and hold the power button, then select Power Off on the screen to shut down the device completely.

Eject the SIM tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool into the pinhole on the upper left edge and push to pop out the SIM tray.

Heat the rear cover
2 minApply heat around the outer edges of the back panel for 2 minutes to soften the internal adhesive.

Attach a suction cup
1 minPress a suction cup onto the lower portion of the back cover and pull upward gently to create a small gap.

Insert an opening pick
2 minSlide a thin plastic opening pick into the gap between the rear cover and the frame.

Slice the perimeter adhesive
3 minSlide the pick along all four edges of the back cover to cut through the surrounding adhesive tape.

Lift the rear cover
2 minSlowly pivot the back panel open from the left side, keeping it close to avoid damaging the fingerprint sensor cable.

Disconnect the fingerprint reader
2 minUse a plastic spudger to pry the fingerprint sensor flex cable connector straight off the motherboard.

Remove the lower speaker screws
3 minUnscrew the Phillips #00 screws securing the bottom speaker housing to the phone frame.

Remove the speaker housing
2 minInsert a spudger beneath the edge of the lower speaker assembly and pry it up out of the chassis.

Disconnect the main flex cable
1 minPry up the main interconnect ribbon cable connector from the daughterboard using a plastic spudger.

Disconnect the antenna cable
2 minUse tweezers to carefully lift the coaxial antenna cable head off its snap terminal on the daughterboard.

Remove the old daughterboard
2 minPry the daughterboard containing the microphone out of its recess in the bottom of the frame.

Install the new daughterboard
2 minPosition the replacement daughterboard into the bottom frame slot and press it firmly into place.

Reconnect the antenna cable
1 minAlign the coaxial antenna head over its socket on the new daughterboard and snap it down into place.

Reconnect the main flex cable
1 minAlign the interconnect flex cable connector over the daughterboard socket and press until it clicks.

Reinstall the speaker housing
2 minLower the speaker assembly back over the bottom daughterboard until it sits flush in the frame.

Secure the speaker screws
2 minReinstall and tighten the Phillips #00 screws to hold the speaker housing firmly in place.

Reconnect the fingerprint reader
2 minHold the rear cover close to the frame and snap the fingerprint sensor flex cable onto the motherboard.

Reseal the rear cover
3 minApply new adhesive strips along the perimeter, press the rear panel onto the frame, and reinsert the SIM tray.
