Step-by-step

Power off the device
1 minPress and hold the power button on the right edge, then select Power Off on the screen.

Remove the SIM card tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool into the hole next to the tray on the left edge to pop it out.

Unclip the rear cover
3 minInsert a plastic prying tool into the seam between the rear cover and display, sliding along the perimeter to pop the plastic clips.

Disconnect the fingerprint sensor cable
2 minSlightly lift the rear cover and use a spudger to pry the fingerprint reader flex connector straight up from the motherboard.

Remove the lower loudspeaker screws
2 minUse a Phillips #000 screwdriver to remove the seven screws securing the bottom speaker housing.

Pry out the loudspeaker module
2 minInsert the flat end of a spudger under the speaker module notch and lift it off the lower frame.

Disconnect the main sub-board flex cable
1 minUse a spudger to gently pop the interconnect flex connector off the bottom daughterboard.

Disconnect the coaxial antenna cable
2 minGrasp the antenna head using fine-tip tweezers and lift straight up off its socket on the sub-board.

Remove the defective microphone sub-board
2 minPry gently beneath the sub-board with a plastic tool to free it from the frame adhesive.

Transfer the rubber microphone gasket
2 minUse tweezers to peel the small rubber acoustic gasket off the old microphone port and place it onto the new sub-board.

Position the new microphone sub-board
2 minSet the new sub-board into the bottom chassis recess and press down lightly to seat it.

Reconnect the coaxial antenna cable
2 minAlign the antenna cable connector over its sub-board socket and press firmly until it snaps into place.

Attach the main flex cable
1 minAlign the interconnect flex cable press connector over the sub-board socket and push down until it clicks.

Reinstall the loudspeaker module
2 minPlace the loudspeaker housing over the sub-board and press around its edges until it sits flush.

Fasten the lower housing screws
2 minReinstall and tighten the seven Phillips #000 screws to secure the loudspeaker assembly.

Reconnect the fingerprint reader cable
2 minHold the rear cover close to the phone and press the fingerprint flex cable back onto the motherboard socket.

Snap the rear cover on
2 minAlign the rear cover with the chassis and press firmly around all edges until every clip snaps locked.

Reinsert the SIM card tray
1 minSlide the SIM card tray back into its slot on the left edge of the phone until flush.
