Step-by-step

Power off the device
1 minPress and hold the power button, then tap Power Off to turn off the phone completely.

Remove the SIM tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool into the pinhole on the left side to pop out and remove the tray.

Lift back cover
1 minGently lift the rear panel away from the body, taking care not to snag any flex cables.

Unscrew motherboard bracket
3 minRemove all Phillips screws holding the plastic upper motherboard cover in place.

Pry up plastic bracket
2 minInsert a flat spudger under the edges of the upper motherboard cover and unclip it.

Disconnect fingerprint sensor
1 minPry the fingerprint sensor flex cable connector straight up off the motherboard.

Remove motherboard cover
1 minLift the plastic motherboard cover out of the chassis and place it aside.

Disconnect battery cable
1 minUse a spudger to pry the battery press connector directly off the motherboard socket.

Apply adhesive remover
2 minDrip a few drops of isopropyl alcohol around the battery edges to dissolve the underlying glue.

Pry out old battery
3 minInsert a wide plastic card under the edge of the battery and slowly lever it up from the housing.

Clean housing recess
2 minWipe away remaining adhesive residue from the battery bay using isopropyl alcohol and a cloth.

Apply new adhesive
2 minPlace pre-cut battery adhesive strips into the battery compartment and peel off the film.

Install replacement battery
2 minAlign the new battery in the tray and press down firmly to secure it.

Reconnect battery flex
