Step-by-step

Power off the device
1 minPress and hold the power button, then select Power Off on the screen. Ensure the device is completely shut down before proceeding.

Heat the rear cover
2 minApply continuous heat around the edges of the back cover using a heat gun or hair dryer for 2 minutes to soften the adhesive.

Attach a suction cup
1 minPlace a suction cup near the bottom edge of the back cover and pull upward gently to create a slight gap.

Insert an opening pick
1 minSlide a thin plastic opening pick into the gap created between the back cover and the midframe.

Slice the edge adhesive
3 minSlide the pick around all four sides of the rear cover to separate the perimeter adhesive bond.

Lift the rear cover partially
1 minGently lift the right side of the rear cover like a book. Do not pull it away completely yet as the fingerprint flex cable is still connected.

Disconnect the fingerprint sensor
1 minUse the edge of a spudger to pop the fingerprint sensor ribbon cable off its motherboard connector, then set the back cover aside.

Unscrew the lower speaker housing
2 minUse a Phillips #00 screwdriver to remove the screws securing the lower speaker speaker assembly over the daughterboard.

Remove the speaker housing
1 minInsert a spudger under the speaker housing and pry it up from the frame to reveal the daughterboard containing the microphone.

Disconnect the interconnect flex cable
1 minPry up the main interconnect ribbon cable connector from the bottom daughterboard using a plastic spudger.

Unclip the coaxial antenna cable
1 minUse fine tweezers to carefully unclip the coaxial antenna cable connector from the daughterboard terminal.

Pry out the faulty daughterboard
2 minInsert a flat spudger under the daughterboard and carefully pry it out of the lower recessed cavity.

Install the new daughterboard
2 minPosition the new daughterboard (with integrated microphone) into the lower housing and press down until it sits flush.

Reconnect the antenna and flex cables
2 minSnap the main flex cable connector and the coaxial antenna cable back onto their respective terminals on the new board.

Reinstall the speaker housing cover
2 minLower the speaker cover back into position and secure it with the previously removed Phillips #00 screws.

Reconnect the fingerprint sensor cable
1 minHold the rear cover near the device and snap the fingerprint sensor flex cable connector back onto the motherboard.

Reseal the back cover
2 minApply fresh pre-cut adhesive around the frame perimeter, press the back cover tightly into place, and hold firm pressure for 1 minute.
