Eject the SIM Card Tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool or thin pin into the hole on the left edge of the phone to pop out the SIM card tray. Remove the tray completely and set it aside.

Heat the Rear Cover
2 minUse a heat gun or hair dryer set on low to heat the edges of the plastic back cover for roughly two minutes. This softens the adhesive holding the rear panel to the frame.

Slice the Back Cover Adhesive
4 minAttach a suction cup to the lower back cover and pull upward to create a slight gap. Insert a plastic prying tool or opening pick into the gap and slide around the perimeter.

Disconnect the Fingerprint Cable
2 minLift the rear cover slightly from the left edge, taking care not to strain the fingerprint reader ribbon cable. Use a spudger to detach the sensor flex connector from the motherboard.

Unscrew the Midframe
5 minUse a Phillips #000 screwdriver to remove all visible screws securing the internal plastic motherboard shield and midframe assembly. Keep the screws organized for reassembly.

3 minPeel off any protective backing on the new volume button flex assembly. Position the flex cable along the internal frame recess and press firmly so the adhesive sticks.

Reconnect Motherboard Connectors

Reattach the Midframe and Back Cover
