Step-by-step

Power off the device
1 minPress and hold the power button, then select Power Off on the screen.

Eject the SIM tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool into the pinhole at the top edge of the phone to remove the card tray.

Heat the back glass
3 minApply heat with a heat gun around the outer edges of the rear panel for two minutes to soften the glue.

Attach a suction cup
1 minPlace a suction cup on the lower portion of the rear glass near the bottom edge.

Create an opening seam
2 minPull up firmly on the suction cup and slide an opening pick into the gap between the glass and body.

Slice the bottom adhesive
2 minSlide the opening pick along the bottom edge to cut through the factory adhesive.

Slice the side adhesive
3 minMove the pick around the left and right edges, staying close to the perimeter to avoid internal components.

Remove the rear glass
2 minLift the rear glass cover completely off the phone and set it aside on a clean surface.

Unscrew the midframe cover
4 minRemove the nine Phillips #00 screws holding down the top plastic midframe shield.

Unclip the midframe cover
2 minInsert a spudger beneath the edge of the plastic midframe and lift it out of the chassis.

Disconnect the battery cable
1 minUse a plastic spudger to pry the battery cable connector straight up from the motherboard socket.

Soak the battery adhesive
3 minApply a few drops of isopropyl alcohol around the edges of the battery to loosen the glue beneath it.

Pry up the battery
4 minInsert a flat plastic opening card underneath the battery and slowly pry it upward.

Remove the old battery
2 minLift the battery out of the frame while taking care not to bend or puncture the cell.

Clean the battery compartment
2 minWipe away remaining adhesive residue inside the tray using isopropyl alcohol and a lint-free cloth.

Apply battery adhesive
2 minPlace custom double-sided adhesive strips onto the back of the new replacement battery.

Install the new battery
2 minSet the new battery into the compartment and press the connector firmly onto the motherboard.

Reinstall the midframe cover
4 minPosition the plastic midframe cover back on the device and secure it using the nine Phillips screws.

Reseal the back cover
3 minApply fresh precut adhesive to the housing perimeter, align the back glass, and press firmly to seal.
