Step-by-step

Power down the device
1 minPress and hold the power button, then select Power Off on the screen to completely shut down the device.

Eject the SIM tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool into the hole next to the SIM tray on top of the phone and push firmly to pop it out.

Heat the rear glass cover
3 minApply heat evenly along the edges of the back glass using a heat gun on low power for 2 minutes to soften the adhesive.

Attach suction cup
2 minPlace a suction cup near the bottom edge of the glass back cover and pull upward gently to create a slight gap.

Slice perimeter adhesive
5 minInsert a thin plastic prying pick into the gap and carefully slide it around the perimeter to slice through the adhesive seal.

Disconnect fingerprint cable
2 minSlightly lift the rear glass and use a flat spudger to disconnect the fingerprint sensor flex cable from the motherboard connector.

Remove rear glass cover
1 minLift the rear glass completely away from the chassis and place it on a clean workspace surface.

Remove midframe screws
4 minUse a Phillips #000 screwdriver to remove all visible screws securing the plastic midframe panel to the housing.

Unclip the midframe panel
3 minGently insert a plastic opening tool beneath the edge of the midframe shield and unclip it from the body of the phone.

Disconnect battery cable
1 minUse a plastic spudger to lift and disconnect the battery press connector from the motherboard to cut power.

Disconnect power button ZIF connector
2 minUse fine tweezers to flip up the locking tab on the power button ZIF socket and pull out the flex cable strip.

Peel power button flex cable
3 minGently slide a flat spudger under the power button flex cable to separate its adhesive backing from the inner frame wall.

Extract physical power key actuator
2 minUse tweezers to release the metal retaining bracket and lift the physical power button key out from its slot in the outer frame.

Install replacement power button cable
3 minPosition the new power button assembly into the side slot, pressing the flex adhesive strip firmly against the internal frame frame.

Lock power button flex cable
2 minSlide the flex cable end into the motherboard ZIF socket and flip down the locking lever to secure the connection.

Reconnect battery press connector
1 minAlign the battery press connector over its motherboard socket and press down firmly until it snaps into place.

Reinstall midframe shield
4 minSnap the plastic midframe panel back into position over the motherboard and secure it with the Phillips #000 screws.

Attach fingerprint cable and seal rear glass
5 minReconnect the fingerprint sensor flex cable, apply new perimeter adhesive tape, and firmly press the back glass cover into place.
