Step-by-step

Power off the phone
1 minPress and hold the power button, then tap Power Off on the screen. Ensure the device is completely shut down before starting.

Remove the SIM card tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool or thin paperclip into the pinhole next to the SIM tray on the side of the phone. Push firmly to pop the tray out.

Heat the front glass
2 minUse a heat gun or hair dryer to warm the perimeter of the front screen for 2 minutes. This softens the display adhesive underneath.

Attach a suction cup
1 minPlace a suction cup onto the lower third of the display glass. Press down firmly to ensure a strong seal.

Insert an opening pick
2 minPull up on the suction cup to create a small gap, then insert a plastic opening pick between the screen assembly and metal frame.

Slice the display adhesive
3 minSlide the opening pick around all four edges of the screen to cut through the remaining adhesive. Take care not to insert the pick more than 3mm deep.

Open the display assembly
2 minGently lift the top edge of the display, pivoting it from the bottom like a book cover. Do not pull the screen away entirely yet.

Remove the display connector bracket
2 minUse a Phillips #000 screwdriver to remove the two screws securing the metal shield over the display connector.

Disconnect the display flex cable
1 minUse the flat end of a spudger to gently pry the display flex connector straight up from its socket on the motherboard.

Unscrew the loudspeaker housing
3 minRemove the Phillips #000 screws holding down the lower plastic bracket and loudspeaker assembly at the bottom of the device frame.

Pry up the loudspeaker module
2 minInsert a plastic prying tool beneath the loudspeaker module and lift it out of the phone chassis.

Clean the motherboard speaker pads
2 minDampen a cotton swab with isopropyl alcohol and gently wipe dust off the gold contact pads on the motherboard.

Insert the new loudspeaker
2 minAlign the replacement loudspeaker module with the bottom recess in the chassis and press it down until it sits flush.

Secure the loudspeaker housing screws
3 minReplace and tighten all Phillips screws that hold the loudspeaker module and lower frame housing in place.

Reconnect the display cable
1 minAlign the display flex cable over its motherboard socket and press down gently until it snaps into place.
