Step-by-step

Power Off the Device
1 minPress and hold the power button, then select Power Off on the screen to completely shut down the device.

Heat the Display Edges
3 minApply heat evenly around the outer edges of the screen using a heat gun set to low temperature for two minutes to soften the display adhesive.

Attach the Suction Cup
2 minPlace the suction cup near the bottom edge of the glass display and pull upward firmly to create a small gap.

Slice Display Adhesive
5 minInsert a plastic prying pick into the gap and slice along the perimeter to separate the adhesive. Take extra care around the top sensors and bottom fingerprint scanner.

2 minGently lift the right edge of the screen assembly like a book, taking care not to strain the attached display flex cables.

Remove Display Connector Bracket
3 minUnscrew the small Phillips #000 screws securing the metal shield over the display connector and lift the shield off with tweezers.

Disconnect Display Cable
2 minUse the flat end of a spudger to pry the display flex cable straight up from its socket on the motherboard.

Disconnect Battery Cable
3 minLocate the battery connector bracket, unscrew the retaining screw, and disconnect the battery cable using a plastic spudger.

Disconnect Volume Button Cable
2 minUse tweezers or a spudger to disconnect the volume button flex cable connector from the side of the motherboard.

Remove Damaged Volume Button Flex
3 minGently insert a thin pry tool under the volume button flex cable adhered along the inside frame wall to free it from the chassis.

Install New Volume Button Flex
3 minAlign the replacement volume button flex cable against the internal side frame and press down firmly to set the adhesive.

Reconnect Volume and Battery Cables
3 minSnap the new volume button flex connector and the battery flex cable back into their respective sockets on the motherboard.

Reattach Display Bracket
3 minConnect the display cable, position the metal shield over the connector, and secure it with the Phillips #000 screws.

Reseal the Display
5 minApply new pre-cut adhesive around the frame, lower the display carefully into position, and press firmly around the edges to seal.
